Makalu-Barun National Park




       Makalu Barun National Park is the 8th national park of Nepal which was established in 1991. The park is adjacent to Sagarmatha National Park covering an area of 1500 km2 in Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha districts with 4 rural municipalities. In 1999 A.D, area of 830 km2 surrounding the park was declared as buffer zone with 94 buffer zone user communittee.
       Makalu Barun National Park consists of mountain peaks, glacial lakes, glaciers, cliffs. rivers, hot water springs, forests, etc. The 5th highest mountain in the world, Mt. Makalu(8463m) lies here in this national park.  it is the world’s only protected area with higher elevation enclosing low tropical forests to snow-capped peaks.



Major FLORA OF MAKALU BARUN NATIONAL PARK:

Makalu Barun National Park is also a ministry of forest and soil conservation. The park has 20 different ecosystems ranging from the Hill sal forests to the world deepest arun valley. . 25 species of rhododendrons and 47 species of orchids, 56 rare and endangered plants in 27 types of forest.

Major FAUNA OF MAKALU BARUN NATIONAL PARK:

Snow leopard , Himalayan Black Bear, Red panda, Musk Deer, Wild Boar and common leopard are major among the 88 recorded mammals. In addition, 433 species of birds have been recorded here.
